AI Has Its First Big Tech Victim

News… If you think about it, news comes from press releases and conference calls. The Fed creates news when they release Economic data.

Heck, a press conference at the White House… or a presidential “Tweet” can break news these days.

But recently, major news broke from an unlikely place.

Where did it happen?

In a congressional hearing!

What happened?

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) opened an antitrust investigation into Alphabet (ticker: GOOG), the parent company of Google.

The DOJ says Google has a monopoly on online searching and needs to be broken up.

A judge recently ruled against Google, and now it’s up to Congress to figure out what to do.

Might Google need to sell some of its assets to other companies?

Or could one of Google’s products become an entirely new company separate from Alphabet?

A lot can happen and Congress is currently holding hearings to figure out a good solution.

Well, last Wednesday someone dropped a bombshell during one of these hearings.

Eddy Cue, a Senior Vice President at Apple (ticker: AAPL), testified Google searches in Safari, Apple’s internet browser, were down in the month of March for the first time EVER.

Why was Google search declining so important?

Google search is Alphabet’s flagship product. People don’t even call it “internet searching”; Everyone calls it “Googling”!

What’s the cause?

Eddy thinks the fall in search is caused by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is a HUGE deal.

People are now using AI to do their internet searches instead of “Googling.”

And AI is in its infancy.

Imagine what AI will look like in 3 or 5 or 10 years! .

Are people even going to be using Google?

Alphabet stock fell 7.5% on the news.

What’s the future of internet searching?

Well, the future could still be “Googling”.

Google has its own AI “chatbot,” called Google Gemini.

AI chatbots allow people to talk to a computer to answer questions or have simple conversations. I’ve used a few, and the technology behind them is powerful. !

Chatbots are easier than using the traditional Google website.

Google is the best search engine… but is Google Gemini the best AI bot?.

Microsoft (ticker: MSFT), IBM (ticker: IBM), and Facebook (ticker: META), along with many others are trying to take the crown from Google.

Consider this… If Google Gemini doesn't quickly find commercial success, then it’s goodnight for Alphabet.

Over half of Alphabet’s revenue comes from Google search!

AI might be the end of Google and Alphabet - What do you think?
